Multifamily buildings in the U.S. are generally constructed in compliance with state and local building codes based on the International Building Code (IBC), developed by the International Code Council (ICC), and related codes such as the International Existing Building Code(IEBC), International Fire Code (IFC) and International Mechanical Code (IMC). This webinar replay highlights significant changes affecting multifamily construction in the 2018 editions of the IBC and other I-Codes, as well as significant changes to related design standards. This webinar replay is the second of a series available free of charge thanks to the generous support of the International Code Council (ICC).

Multifamily buildings in the U.S. are generally constructed in compliance with state and local building codes based on the International Building Code (IBC), developed by the International Code Council (ICC), related codes such as the International Existing Building Code (IEBC), International Fire Code (IFC) and International Mechanical Code (IMC), and standards referenced in those codes. This webinar replay highlights significant code changes affecting multifamily construction in the 2018 editions of the I-Codes and related standards. In particular, changes in the 2016 edition of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures may increase the cost of construction in many areas. Other changes address significant issues in the areas of fire safety, balcony construction and accessibility.

Participants in this webinar replay will:

  • Discuss significant changes to the 2018 edition of the International Building Code and related codes affecting multifamily construction.
  • Recognize the potential impacts of the 2016 edition of ASCE 7 on roof coverings, roof framing and on design in areas of moderate- or high risk of earthquakes.
  • Review significant changes relating to fire resistance in buildings, design and construction of balconies and accessibility.
  • Review the basics of the code development process and how codes are adopted at the state or local level.
